Preschool: Samuel chooses David to be the new King

September 13, 2009

September 13

This morning we learned that God sent Samuel to choose a new king for God’s people. He went to Jesse’s house to meet his sons and choose a king. Did God want the tallest brother? No! Did God want theoldest brother? No! God chose the young brother who was watching the sheep, David. Sometimes God has a big job for us too. But He is always there to help us. Who will help me? God can help me do anything!

To help us remember our story, we made David pictures, played a game where we searched in our room for a king, and ate some yummy Shepherd’s bread.

Parents, kids loveplaying hide and seek games. In our story, Samuel was looking for a new king. So in our game, choose a family member to be David, and have them hide. Then let everyone in your family look for him. Let everyone take a turn being David. When you are done, review the story of Samuel and David.

Be sure to practice the memory verse at home. This is a great life verse for your child to learn. “I (point to self) can do all things (spread arms out like a burst) through Christ.” (point up). Phil. 4:13 (hold hands open like a Bible) Kids can get a case of the “I can’ts”. When that happens, pull this verse our of your back pocket and remind them that they can do all things with God’s help.
