Peter
Because our site is making a few changes, we wanted to re-post this info about Peter.
This is Peter. He’s eight years old and goes to a Hope School in Nairobi, Kenya. Kenya is in Africa.
Peter likes to go to school. But learning at school and playing with other kids is very hard for Peter because he cannot hear. Peter is deaf and he does not know sign language. But that is all about to change. A doctor is going to help give Peter a cochlear implant- it will help him to hear for the first time! After Peter’s surgery, he will need lots of help to begin learning how to process sounds and to speak. Our VBS offering will help pay for the therapy that Peter will need. Just like we learned during VBS, “Jesus Gives us the Power to Help Others (A-Ha!)”! Our offering total this year was $5,460.76.
Continue to pray for Peter. He is flying to Nigeria on August 3rd and will be having surgery the following day on August 4th. As soon as we have news, pictures or video of Peter, we will post them on the blog.

Dear friends,
Thank you so much for your prayers for Baraka. The surgery went well. He is a very brave little boy. He will need to be, as he has a long road ahead of him. On September 1st his wounds will be healed well enough that he will be able to wear the device that makes him hear. Two different times we have tested the device and he definitely is hearing. To what extent we will not know for a while, but the surgery appears successful. Praise the Lord.
Baraka will be in intense speech therapy for at least the next year. He is going to have to work very hard to learn language and communication. He has asked for the device and we can tell that he is very excited.
As we have prayed for Baraka I have been amazed with his trust. He has no real way of understanding all that is happening to him and yet he happily puts his trust in us. He has flown in airplanes, had his head cut open, has his bandages changed daily, and is not allowed to play hard while the wound is healing and yet he has never protested because he trusts that we have his best in mind. I am reminded to not question my circumstances and to trust that my God is all knowing and very good to me and always has our best in mind.
Baraka is staying with Mary and Wallace Kamau, as he is a true orphan and was living with a wonderful woman who has 19 others living with her in a very small space. We did not want to risk any infection of the wound or illness at this point. Please pray for discernment, as we will have to decide for how long he will stay with Kamaus and where will be the best place for him to live after the speech therapy. We know that God has a great plan for this boy.
Praise God with us for every person who was involved in making this happen. Praise Him for a Southern California pastor and his wife who allowed their hearts to be broken for Baraka and have worked tirelessly to make this surgery happen. They knew a Korean businessman who knew a Korean inventor who donated the cochlear implant who knew an Indian doctor who donated the surgery in Nigeria. Two wonderful church bodies, one named Eastside in California and one named Westside in Illinois who paid for all of the plane fairs and other expenses. A moviemaker and his daughter who did amazing amounts of work to one day have this story inspire many other people to love the poor.
God is good!

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked in the past few weeks about Peter. I’m glad so many of you are keeping him on your mind and in your prayers. I’ve contacted our missionary, and he sent a quick reply that he will get me some details soon! But he did say, things look good!
Again, I PROMISE…..as soon as I hear news, I will get it up!
Keep praying for our friend Peter. I’m sure He will need it as is he is recovering from surgery.

I know many of you are anxious as we await news about Peter. I have contacted the missionaries to ask about the surgery, but haven’t heard anything back yet. I promise that as soon as I do have news, I will post it! Meanwhile, here is a comment from Alicia Stewart from the missions page:
“My husband Tim and I just got back from spending the summer in Nairobi, Kenya. We spent a lot of time with Peter. We were so happy when we heard you were raising money to help him fly to Nigeria for surgery so he could hear. Peter is a great kid who loves to play basketball and soccer. He also loves to have his picture taken!! He was very excited to fly in an airplane for the first time. Whenever a plane would fly by he would get very excited and put his arms out and pretend he was also flying.
I am sure Peter knows how much you all love him and it is awesome to see how much you love Jesus and how nuch you love others.”

Today is the day scheduled for Peter’s surgery so pray that the cochlear implant is successful! Please be praying for him and for all the doctors who will be working with him! Our God is the maker of our bodies. He knows every inch. We can trust in Him for all things!
As soon, as we hear word, we’ll post the latest news!
