How do we know God loves us? God gave us Jesus!

This morning we finished the story of Jesus’ birth by learning about the wisemen who brought gifts to Jesus. To help us remember this story we played a fun game with flashlights and talked about the star that the wisemen followed.

We also played a fun game with gold coins because the wisemen brough gold, incense, and myrrh.

Memory Verse: “God (point up) loved (cross hands over heart) the world (make a world by circling hands) so much that he gave (extend arms in front) his only Son” (make a cradle with arms for a baby). John 3:16 (hold hands like a book

Parents: Now that Christmas is over, as you pack up the nativity set, review all the parts of the story with your child. Ask them what their favorite part of the story was. Remind your child that God loves them so much that He sent His only Son to earth as a baby! Say a prayer and thank God for giving us Jesus.

How do we know God loves us? God gave us Jesus!

Today we continued the Christmas story by talking about the angels message to the shepherds who were watching their sheep in the fields. The shepherds were so excited that they ran to Bethlehem to see baby Jesus! We were all excited today too! It was obvious from all the energy that Christmas is almost here.

Today we made sheep masks and dressed up like angels with halos and horns! We also had a special shepherd trail mix (marshmallow sheep and pretzel stick staffs) and played a few fun games.

Parents: To help children keep their focus on Jesus, make Christmas Eve or Christmas extra festive by putting out a birthday cake (or cupcake) for Jesus. Light a candle, sing happy birthday to Jesus and let the kids blow out the birthday candle.

Christmas Eve Services

Christmas Eve services at West Side will be at 2:00, 4:00 and 6:00. We will have children’s programming available for kids birth-5th grade for each of the services. Our rooms will open approximately 15-20 minutes prior to the service, and will close approximately 10 minutes after the close of the service. Children birth-preschool should check in at the appropriate classroom in the lower level of the education wing, and elementary age children should check in to room E205.

If you are a guest joining us on Christmas Eve, we invite you to check in at our Children’s Guest Center near the chapel. One of our greeters would be happy to help you find your way!

Feed 500: Delivery Day

Saturday was delivery day for our Feed 500 project. Families came to the church, received a few simple instructions, loaded up their food baskets and headed out to deliver them to families in need this Christmas. Here are some pics of this really exciting day!

Kids helped restock the tables as people loaded their food basket.

We want to thank all those who helped make Feed 500 a success. A special thanks to the preschoolers for bringing lots of hot cocoa and to the elementary kids for bringing in peanut butter and jelly!

A Note from Jessica:

My mom and I delivered food baskets to 9 families on Saturday. Being able to meet some of the families who received the food baskets was an honor and a pleasure. We delivered to some families who had very little in material items, and other families who are simply having a difficult time right now. But all the families were grateful for this blessing and it was such an honor to be able to bring them food and a word of encouragement. Itis a gift to be able to serve Jesusin this way. Please continue to pray for all the families in our community who need to know God’s love for them this Christmas.

How do we know God loves us? God gave us Jesus!

We continuted the Christmas story today as we learned about the night Jesus was born. We learned that there was no room in the inn, so Mary and Joseph had to spend the night in the barn…and that is where Jesus was born! Can you imagine all those farm animals- the sounds they made, and the smells. But Mary took good care of Jesus, and wrapped him in a blanket and laid him on soft hay in the manger.

To help us remember our story, we made manger pictures of Jesus, took care of some baby dolls, played with farm animals, and had yummybarnyard animal cookies! We got to choose between a pink pig, a balck and white cow, or a brown horse.

Parents: Kids are often fascinated with babies. As you talk about the night that Jesus was born, tell your child about the special day or night that THEY were born.
