Preschool: Jesus loves Zacchaeus

March 14, 2010

This week we learned a story about a short man named Zacchaeus. Many people in town didn’t like Zacchaeus because he was a tax collector. Sometimes he took money from them that he shouldn’t take. But Jesus still loved Zacchaeus. Jesus wants us to love everyone, too. He wants us to love people, even when they are unkind to us. Who does Jesus love? Jesus loves everyone!

measureTo help us remember our story, we played a fun game measuring each child to see how tall they were. We also made little Zacchaeus puppets.

Parents, kids love the part of the story where Zacchaeus climbs a tree to see Jesus. Use this part of the story when talking with your child during your next drive. Your conversation could go something like this. “See that tall tree out the window. That makes me think of the story of Zacchaeus. He climbed a tall tree so that he could see Jesus over the crowds of people. Jesus told him to come down because he was going to his house for dinner. Zacchaeus felt so special that Jesus went to his house. Who does Jesus love? Jesus loves everyone! Which tree do you think is the tallest tree ?” Point to different trees and let your child try to find the tallest tree you pass as you drive to your destination.

Our memory verse this month is “Love (cross hands over heart) eachother (spread arms out) as I (point up for Jesus, because Jesus said this) have loved (cross hands over heart) you“(point out with both fingers). John 15:12 (hold hands open like a book) Write this verse out on a couple note cards and say it in the car, at dinner, at bedtime and other times you are with your child.

Preschool: A Place for Us

March 29th, 2009

This month we learned…..”Who will help you?” “Jesus will help me!”

One of the basic truths that we want our children to know is that Jesus wants to be their friend forever. Today we talked about how long forever is! We also learned that Jesus is planning a special place for us to live in heaven. He loves us and wants us to be with Him forever.

To help us remember this, we built houses out of blocks, we looked at pictures of places far away, we had a pretend special party (like the one we’ll have in heaven someday) and we colored pictures to remind us that Jesus cares for us.

A Special Party

A Special Party

He cares for you! 1 Peter 5:7

He cares for you! 1 Peter 5:7

Parent, This week during our talk time, we asked our kids what they thought heaven might belike. This week at dinner time, ask your kids that question. Ask them to tell you about the special house that God is making for them. It’s great to hear what they think it might be like and it’s great for you to share your ideas too. The most important thing to reinforce is that God is getting a special place ready for all of us. Jesus loves us and we get to spend forever with Him.

Next week we have a new question and key point: Who wants to be your best friend? Jesus wants to be my friend forever. Our new memory verse, “I amwith you always.” Matthew 28:20

Preschool: 4 Friends Help the Lame Man

March 15, 2009

Who will help you? Jesus will help me!

In our story today, 4 friends helped theirfriend who couldn’t walk meet Jesus by lowering him down through a roof on a blanket. When Jesus saw the man, he healed the man and the lame man stood up and was able to walk. I bet he gave his friends a big hug to thank them for helping him.

We had lots of fun with our activities today. First, we wrote a letter to mail to our friends. We are so glad God gave us great friends. Then we played a fun game of catch. 2 of our friends held out a big blanket, and then the rest of us tossed beanbags for them to catch.

We also played a fun game with a beach ballto review our memory verse. Our memory verse says, “He (Point up for God) cares (hug self) for me (use both thumbs to point to self) 1 Peter 5:7. (hold hands out like a Bible)

Parents: Sometimes prayer time can become a long list of people that the child names to “bless” or “help”. I’ve tucked in a child or two that tried to name every person they had ever met. I think this practice can sometimes cause prayer to lose it’s focus and purpose for a child. Keep prayer time a real conversation between your child and God by praying more specifically about the kind of help needed. Instead of “Help mommy and daddy and brother and grandma and teacher and Mrs. Smith down the block”try praying “Help daddy to feel better since he has had a cold and help me to be a better listener at school when my teacher is talking.” Not only will this help keep the prayer more conversational but praying specificaly allows your child to observe when God answers a prayer with “yes!”

Preschool: Healing of the 10 Lepers

March 8, 2009

This morning we had a great question: Who will help you? Jesus will help me!

Today, in Greenhouse, we learned that Jesus loves us and will help us. In the story of the 10 lepers, Jesus healed all of them and made them better. To help us remember our story we made a cool band aid picture, played with doctor kits, and played a few other fun games.

Each week, as part of our time together, our kids sit in small circles and share an answer to a question that helps them apply the point to their own lives. Today our question was, do you know someone who Jesus can help? Some of us named our moms, dads, brothers and sisters, and people we know who are sick. The we stopped and prayed that Jesus would help all those people who need Him.

Parents, This is a great week to tackle a new challenge with your child like doing a puzzle, writing their name, tying their shoes, or making the bed. Each day before you begin the learning process, review our question and answer. Who will help you? Jesus will help me? Explain that learning a new task takes time, but we can ask Jesus to help us.

Our memory verse ties in very easily this month. “He (point up) cares (hug self) for me (use both thums to point to self.) 1 Peter 5:7 (open hands like a Bible.)

SPECIAL NOTE:

For those of you who were present for the 11:00 service, we had a tornado warning/watch at the end of the service. We moved all of the children to the interior rooms where there are no windows to the outside. These rooms are the safest places in our buildings. We want to thank all of our volunteers (Hooray Volunteers) for keeping our kids safe, calm and happy. We want to thank our directors, Jennifer & Ticarafor managining the situation with confidence and calm. And we want to thank our parents and other West Siders for helping uskeep oursafe area clear and remaining patientas we safely returned the children to their parents.

fearlessdirectors

In case of a tornado warning or watch, all children are moved to the interior rooms in the education wing. Early childhood kids are gathered in the rooms closest to them at the south end of the ed wing and the Elementary children are gathered in the interior rooms at the north end. In the Early Childhood area, we keep the children calm, happy and busy. If we feel the situation has become more dangerous, we play a game of “hide” with the kids, having them hide under the tables. Our goal is to keep the children safe and help them feel secure. Once children have been safely moved and are accounted for, parents can join their children in the safe rooms by presenting their family i.d. card to a director. Parents are asked to remain calm, as well, so that the all children in our rooms feel safe and secure. Once it is possible to safely check out children, we will do so by asking each parent to present their i.d. card or a driver’s license. Check-out might require a little more time under these circumstances, but getting each child safely returned to their parents is the priority.

If you have any questions regarding our tornado plan, please contact me at Jessicas@wschurch.org

Preschool: Jesus Heals the Blind Man

March 1, 2009

Today we discovered…..Who will help me? Jesus will help me!!!

We heard a great story about a man who was blind. With just a little mud, Jesus performed an amazing miracle and helped the man to see again. Jesus can do so many amazing things. And He can help me too! Our memory verse says, “He (point up) cares (wrap arms around self) for you.” (point at others) 1 Peter 5:7 (hold hands open like a Bible.)

To help us remember our story we made some cool seeing stars glasses and had a yummy snack that looked like 2 eyes. We also had some fun new music in greenhouse. One of ur songs is called Oh He loves Me. You can see us dancing to that cool song, below!

Singin' Oh Oh Oh, He Loves Me!

Parents, This week play a game of I Spy with my little Eye, with your child. After you’ve played a few rounds, remind yourchild that their story this week was about a blind man that Jesus healed. Then pray together and thank God for the eyes that He has given us to see all the wonderful things around us!
