Today was the first day of school for the kids at Deibert Elementary! I hope you have all been praying for them and for Keith Bartlett, their principal. I’m sure they are excited to be back at school and are glad to have what they need to help them learn.
Our fnal offering for Deibert Elementary school students was $5,083.70. Last week, I had a great conversation with the minister at Hope Christian Church in New Orleans. He was so excitedthatour kids made their goal! The school is very excited about being able to offer new school uniforms to kids who need them. Because our offering was above and beyond what was needed for basic supplies,we were able to help in this way too!
If you’d like to help kids here is Springfield have what they need for the coming school year, check out West Side’s special project Schoolapalooza!

Our church is taking on another great project to reach beyond our walls and into our community. The start of school is always a fun time of year for kids. But imagine going to school on the first day with an empty back pack. That’s the reality that some kids in Springfield face on their first day. If you’d like to help some local kids get off to the right start, join us in SCHOOLAPALOOZA!
There are a few ways you and your child can get involved:
-
Adopt a Student, provide the entire list of supplies for one student
-
Adopt a Teacher, provide the entire list of supplies for one teacher
-
Give Financially, and we’ll combine your donation with someone else’s, and shop for a teacher and student on your behalf.
If you want to help, stop by the concourse table on Sunday. This could be a really great project for YOUR CHILD to participate in. They will have so much fun helping you shop for the supplies and chip in some of their own money to make it happen. Not only could you change the life of a child you’ve never met, but you can change the heart ofthe child in your home.

A BIG part of VBX is working together to accomplish a mission that spreads God’s loves to others. This year wewill be collecting a monetary offering to help kids in New Orleans get the school supplies they need.
To help us accomplish our mission, Hope Christian Church in New Orleans has agreed to be the hands and feet of our project. This new church plant will work with our school, John DibertElementary,to identify students who can’t afford school supplies for the coming school year. In August, the volunteers from Hope Christian will buy and deliver school supplies to these kids.

Begin praying now!
- Pray for Eric Fillinger, who will lead this projectat Hope Christian Church
- Pray for the members of Hope Christian Church as they rally behind this project
- Pray for Principal Keith Barlett as he works everyday to help teachers and kids succeed
- Pray for the teachers at John Dibert school as they prepare for a new school year
- Pray for the kids at John Dibert that they work hard in school and have everything they need to succeed
Summer ishere and so are opportunities to begin planning how you can help with our VBX Mission! Here are some clever ways students have raised a little extra money in the past to give as an offering to God.
- Have a garage sale
- Open a lemonade stand
- Do extra chores for family members or neighbors
- Mow lawns
- Make and sell homemade crafts
- Come up with your own clever idea using your special gifts and abilities

Each year, our preschoolers like to do a little project to spread cheer in a local neighborhood. We hope this project will give our children an opportunity to experience kindness and generosity first hand and teach them to live a life filled with compassion for others.
This year, we took potted gerber daisies and left them on doorstops as a surprise for some of our neighbors!

We finished our special deliveries early and headed to BR for a yummy treat!

Great job, kiddos! Thanks for spreading a little of your joy around!

I wanted to give a short update on the Shoes for Haiti project. Riley was able to collect over 900 pairs of shoes, 383 of which came from West Side’s church groups. I received an email from the Jensens that read, “Many in Haiti will be blessed because we simply shared from our excess. We thank you on their behalf and look forward to seeing your shoes on all thoseprecious feet.”
