Shoes for Haiti

One of our Jr. High students, Riley, visited Haiti a while back and she was moved by the poverty of the children there. She saw that none of the children there had shoes that fit or that didn’t have parts missing. She and her family are returning to Haiti soon for another mission trip and she decided to try to do something to help the kids she’s returning to see so she started a shoe drive at her school.

When I heard about what they’re planning, I knew it was something our kids would love to help with too. If you would like to help, collect as many new or gently used shoes as you can over the next two weeks. They’ll take anything (sandals, dress shoes, athletic shoes, etc) other than winter boats (they don’t see a lot of winter in Haiti). Once you’ve got them, bring them in and drop them off inthe bin at theentrance of the education wing. We don’t have much time. The lastday we will be collecting is Sunday, March 29th.

PB & J Challenge

This Sunday our elementary kids came from behind with the boys bringing in 281 jars of peanut butter and the girls bringing in 240 jars of jelly.Because neither group made their goal of 500 jars, we will not be having a party on December 12th. HOWEVER, we are very proud of the big effort our kids made. Because the boys were the leaders in the challenge, we will have a special treat for them in Powerhouse next Sunday December 14th!

Great job to everyone! If you still would like to bring in jars of peanut butter or grapejelly, feel free to bring them to the church office by Wednesday December 10th!

Feed 500 Update

Our kids have special projects for Feed 500!

The preschool age kids are collecting hot cocoa mix. We need 500 boxes and today we started with 31 boxes of hot cocoa mix! We have a way to go but I know we can do it!

The elementary kids have a boys vs. girls competition. The boys are bringing in peanut butter and the girls are bringing in grape jelly! The count so far is Peanut Butter 50, Jelly 44! So the boys are in the lead! Good job boys! But both teams are shooting for the goal of 500 jars! So everyone, keep collecting.

We’ve got lots of great idea on the kids Feed 500 page and a special message for yuor family to view.

We will be collecting these items during the next 2 Sundays, November 30th and December 7th!

All About Peter

Peter

Peter

Because our site is making a few changes, we wanted to re-post this info about Peter.

This is Peter. He’s eight years old and goes to a Hope School in Nairobi, Kenya. Kenya is in Africa.
Peter likes to go to school. But learning at school and playing with other kids is very hard for Peter because he cannot hear. Peter is deaf and he does not know sign language. But that is all about to change. A doctor is going to help give Peter a cochlear implant- it will help him to hear for the first time! After Peter’s surgery, he will need lots of help to begin learning how to process sounds and to speak. Our VBS offering will help pay for the therapy that Peter will need. Just like we learned during VBS, “Jesus Gives us the Power to Help Others (A-Ha!)”! Our offering total this year was $5,460.76.
Continue to pray for Peter. He is flying to Nigeria on August 3rd and will be having surgery the following day on August 4th. As soon as we have news, pictures or video of Peter, we will post them on the blog.
