Preschool: Creation Celebration

November 29, 2009

partyThis Sunday we wrapped up our month learning about creation with a celebration! We celebrated all the wonderful things that God made, like the sun, the trees, the water, the sky, all the animals and people. We all worked together to create a cool celebration banner, then we had a party! Who makes good things? God makes good things!

Parents, if you’ve been reading their creation book at home all month, it mightbe time for a pop quiz. As you are driving in the car, name some of God’s creations and let your child tell you what day God made that thing. Kids love showing off how much they know! When they get an answer wrong, encourage them by saying “I don’t think so, try again.” When they get it right, be sure to give them lots of praise!

Next month we’ll be jumping forward in the Bible to the Christmas story. You can start working on next month’s memory verse now. “God (point up) has given (extend arms in front of yourself) a Son to us ( pretend you are rocking a baby). Isaiah 9:6 (hold hands like a book)

Preschool: God Made Fish and Birds

November 8, 2009

We continue to learn about creation and discovered that on day 5, God made fish and birds. Who makes good things? God makes good things.

We had so much fun learning about the creation of these 2 animals. We played a fun game catching tiny toy fish in a pool of water (so some of our kiddos may have come home a little wet) and we made bird pictures with real feathers. We also had goldfish crackers that we scooped out of a goldfish bowl. During talk time, we had a really fun question. Would you rather be a bird or a fish? It was so fun to hear our kids give their answer. Be sure to ask your kiddo what their answer would be!

Parents: Keep reading your creation books at home. Itwill help reinforce what we are teaching at church, and give your child an opportunity to really know the creation story. This week was especially fun because kids love animals. Play a game of pretend at home called shark attack. Spread a blanket out on the floor. Tell your child it is a boat and the rest of the floor is water. Whenever they are on the boat, they are safe. But when they get into the water, the shark might bite them. You get to be the shark. “Swim” far away from the boat so that your child will bravely get in the water. Then chase after them until they are safely on the boat. Taking time to play with your child will give them lots of fun memories at home.

Be sure to practice your memory verse too. “God saw all that He had made and it was very good.” Gen. 1:31

Preschool: God Created the World

November 1, 2009

photoThis month we are learning about the creation of the world.

Our memory verse says, “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.” Gen. 1:31 Who makes good things? God makes good things! Today we started this story by learning about the first 4 days of creation.

  • Day 1: God made the light and the dark.
  • Day 2: God made the sky and the water.
  • Day 3: God made plants, land and seas.
  • Day 4: God made the sun, the moon, and the stars. He made day and night.

To help us remember our story, we made a great big tree that we all worked on together, we played a fun game with stars, and we celebrated the plants that God made by having carrots for our snack. They were delicious! God makes such good things!

Parents, your kids made a special book that talks about all the things that God created. Read it each night with your child. After a week, see if your child can read it back to you! It’s a great opportunity to reinforce what we are learning at church while you areat home.

Here’s a bonus idea. This week, take a walk with your child. Point out all the the things you see that God made. Say, “See that beautiful tree. God made that beautiful tree. Who makes good things? That’s right, God makes good things.

Preschool: November 30th

Today we finished up our 6 weeks learning about creation when we talked about day 7! On day 7, God saw all that he made and said “It is Good!” Then, he rested.

To help us remember that God rested, for one of our activities, we spread out a blanket, had a yummy snack of pillows and teddy bears (marshmallows and teddy grahams) and read bedtime stories.

We also made celebration posters and played a few fun games to help us remember all that we’ve learned!

Our memory verse: “God made the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1

Who made everything? God made everything!

Parents: This week, use bedtime to talk about day 7. Remind your child that God saw everything He made and said “It is good”. Then, He rested. Each night ask your child to name something they saw during the day that God created before getting some rest.

Next Sunday, we start learning about the story of Jesus’ birth!

Preschool: November 16th

Today we learned about day 6! God made animals! It’s very exciting to learn about the animals that God made! He made so many different kinds and they are all wonderful! Next Sunday, we will learn what else God made on day 6!

Who made everything? GOD made everything!!!

During GreenHouse, we sang a song called Thank You Lord for Making Me! During the song we pretend to be monkeys, gators, and bears! Oh my!

In our classrooms we made cool animal puppets!

During our talk time, we each had an opportunity to name our favorite animal that God made! There were so many different answers: turtles, puppy dogs, lions, elephants, monkeys, lizards, alligators, horses….and on and on!

PARENTS: We have a special project for you this week. Get out a piece of paper and as a family list some of the different animals that God made. Keep the list on the fridge and all week add to it as you think of more. Next Sunday bring the list to church or mail it in, and your family will receive a special prize! I’m guessing our lists will get pretty long because our God is so creative and he made so many different kinds of animals!

Our memory verse is Genesis 1:1: “God made the heavens and the earth.”

Elementary: Love Your Neighbor

This week in PowerHouse we turned our attention to a simple message in loving our neighbor from Luke 10:27. Our lesson of The Good Samaritan reminds us of God’s second greatest commandment, which is to “love your neighbor as yourself.” The kids were given the task of listening for the phrase “love your neighbor” – to which they would respond – “Luke 10:27″. And when they heard someone say “Luke 10:27″ - they were to respond with “love your neighbor.” What a sharp bunch of kids we have!!! Each 2nd – 5th grade small group also had the job of putting together and presenting a skit to share with the large group. They did a FANTASTIC job representing ways in which we can “love our neighbor as ourselves.” Great work, guys!
