Our Support Ministry provides a wonderful program called Broken Promise, for children who have experienced the stress, sadness and uncertainty of divorce. It begins on Tuesday, February 2nd at West Side Christian Church. It meets every Tuesday from 6:45-8:00 for 13 weeks.

Broken Promise is for children 4 years old through 8th grade. One of the parents (not both) attends with the children. Parents meet in a separate room with other parents to learn about what their child is experiencing and ways to help them. Children are divided up by age group and will learn about the grief cycle and the emotions that everyone goes through when they experience a loss. They will also learn appropriate ways to express their anger, as well as tools for coping with difficult emotions.

One of our parents wrote this about Broken Promise:

My son went through Broken Promise when he was 4 years old. At that age, he didn’t have a clue what being married was or what the word divorce meant. While going through the program, he had a conversation on the phone with his daddy. His dad was telling him that he missed him and that he wished that we could all live together again. My son responded, “No Daddy, you and mom tried living together before and you couldn’t, so you got a divorce so now you have to share me. I love you both!” This just floored me because it showed how much my son was understanding because of Broken Promise. It was amazing. The program touched us so much, we are now serving other families through the Broken Promise ministry.

It is a life-changing program for children. If you would like more information click here. To register, call the church office at 793-2800. Registration ends February 1st.

Today, we learned how the story of Noah ended. We found out that God kept Noah safe through the flood. God put a rainbow in the sky totell Noah that he would keep his promise. Can you believe what God says? God does what He says He will do.

We had a great day today making a cool rainbow banner that we made together and we ate yummy rainbow cookies.

Parents, this week be sure to get out your children’s Bible and read the story of Noah and the ark with your child. Then play a game of I Spy using colors. For example, you say “I spy with my little eye something that is red.” Your child can guess objects until they guess the item you chose. Be sure to let them lead the game as well.

Be sure to practice this month’s memory verse. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart.” Prov. 3:5

This weekend, 8 families gathered together to dedicate their children to the Lord. On Saturday morning, we began by eating together with family and friends. Then, we gathered in the chapel for a short devotional message from Cindy Lash who inspired us to rememberteh influenceweALL (moms, dad, grandmas grandpas, aunts, uncles and friends) willhave in the lives of these children.

Finally, the parents came forward and made these promises.

I believe that my child is a gift from God.

I commit to be an example in my own prayer time, Bible study and daily walk with God.

I will seek God’s will in the decisions I make as I parent my child.

Building a relationship of love and trust with my child will be a priority for me because I will be influential in their view of God.

I will help my child connect with God’s family through involvment in our church community.

I commit to intentionally teach and train my child to love God and follow Jesus Christ.

I will encourage my child, giving them every opportunity to develop a personal relationship with Jesus.

The friends and families made a promise as well- to support and encourage the parents as they seek to honor God through their parenting decisions.

Thank you to Kerri Taylor, who planned the party and made the room so inviting and fun. Thank you to Hylia Graham and Louella Rugg for serving our families. And thank you to Cindy Lash for making our day so special by inspiring us with your message to encourage and love these tiny blessings.

This morning, our 8 families were recognized during our Sunday morning services. Michelle Engle, thank you for taking care of our families this morning prior to the recognition.

Thank you to allthese families for embracing your role as parentsandmakinga commitment to your child’s spiritual journey.
